Religion

Religion was a huge part of Egypt, and guided every aspect of Egyptian life. Egyptian religion was based on polytheism (the belief in or worship of more than one god), except for during the reign of Akenaton. The Egyptians had as many as 2000 gods and goddesses, which some were worshipped throughout the whole country, and others locally.

Amun

Amun, is an extremely important God in Ancient Egyptian, and is the
first and most worshipped God of Ancient Egypt. He was recognized
as the ‘King of Gods’, and represented absolute holiness.

However, when Amun was combined with the sun god Ra he was even more powerful, and was then called Amun-Ra. His place of worship was at Thebes, where the earliest known Temple dedicated to him was located, the Precinct of Amun-Ra.

Isis

Isis was the great Egyptian goddess, wife of Osiris, mother of Horus, sister of Osiris, Set, and Nephthys, and daughter of Geb and Nut, who was worshiped all over Egypt and elsewhere. She searched for her husband’s body, retrieved and reassembled Osiris, taking on the role of goddess of the dead. She then impregnated herself from Osiris’ body and gave birth to Horus, who she raised at a secrecy to keeph him safe from Osiris’ killer, Seth. She was associated with life, the winds, the heavens, beer, abundance, magic, and more.

Anubis

Anubis’ role was a huge part of Egyptian Religion, and heavily believed by Egyptians. This was the process of embalming and Mummification. He was the god who helped to embalm Osiris after he was killed by Seth. Thus, Anubis was the god who watched over the process of mummifying people when they died. This process was to ensure that the person could have a safe trip to the afterlife, and live on in a similar way.
